I was on vacation far from my home bike shop and badly needed a rear derailleur adjustment. Fortunately Wheel Works is conveniently located right next to the West Orange Trail that I was riding that day and they were able to make the adjustments for me immediately. I am deeply disappointed with the treatment I received at Winter Garden Wheel Works while trying to purchase a child rear seat for my bicycle. As a loyal cyclist and U.S. Marine Veteran, I expected a basic level of respect and professionalism, but sadly, that was not the case.
Before visiting the store, I called ahead and spoke to an employee named Kevin to confirm the item was available and could be purchased the same day. I specifically mentioned that I was driving 35 minutes in the rain and expressed my hope that everything would work out, as I didn’t want to make the trip for nothing.
Upon arrival, I parked about half a city block away and carried both of my bikes to the store in the rain. Despite employees noticing my obvious struggle, not one offered to lend a hand—a small but telling sign of poor customer service.
When I entered the store, the staff acknowledged who I was and why I was there. However, after only a few minutes, another customer—a white woman—walked in and announced she was in a rush. The representative assisting me immediately stopped helping me and diverted their attention to her, seemingly expecting me to understand and wait. I did not protest, but it was clear that my time and patronage were not valued.
Customer service should be impartial and inclusive, treating all customers with the same level of care and respect, regardless of gender or ethnicity. The “first come, first serve” principle is a cornerstone of fair service, yet my experience felt as though it operated under a different rule—one where minority customers are pushed aside when someone else asserts their urgency.
Studies show that 96% of customers base their loyalty on the quality of service they receive, and poor customer service can result in businesses losing up to 68% of their clientele. Unfortunately, Winter Garden Wheel Works has lost mine. I left without making a purchase and will not return.

My rear disc brake malfunctioned, making pedaling somewhat difficult. Stopped at the shop an hour before opening but the mechanic was out front. He checked the brake, diagnosed the problem, and promptly fixed it when the store opened at 10. He also tuned the gears and re-wrapped the handlebar tape. Took it out to Buckhill and rode great. Good folks. Very competent. Fair prices. Definitely recommend.

FANTASTIC BIKE SHOP! Family Owned and full-service. The entire staff is friendly and knowledgeable. And they are located right on the West Orange Trail!

The shop is opened floor, bicycles are around the buding and in the front that are for sale. They have lots of bike clothing including crooked can shirts. I have purchased bike shorts from here before and although pricey ($80) they have lasted a long time. Our first employee was very helpful, the other one seemed irritated by our presence. First employee checked us out and helped finding the right helmet. Thanks for the help with tires and inner tubes.
