Very charming quaint hotel right across the street from the train station. It’s definitely rustic, but the bed was wonderful, everything was clean, breakfast was delicious and the service was excellent. We woke to the smell of freshly made waffle cones and absolutely indulged in ice cream before we headed out.

It is conveniently located to the train station and is in close proximity to a number of restaurants that are within walking distance, which is lovely. We found it clean, and that is the most critical attribute to any hotel in my estimation, but far from nice or modern. No air conditioning was a downer but there was a box fan in the room that was effective and loud enough to drown out noise from the hallway. The old time locks on the doors close loudly which is not helpful if you are a light sleeper. Overall the room was in better condition than the appearance of the building. Limited options in Chama!

The hotel is old with a lot of character. Don't expect modern and updated. Our room was "antique" but very clean. We slept very well on the comfortable and clean bed. There was bottled water, a coffee pot and coffee. The small hotel restaurant serves tasty, home cooked food, and the desserts are fabulous. All the staff was polite and helpful. Even the guests were friendly and helpful. We ate our evening desserts and drank our morning coffee on the balcony and watched the train passengers boarding for the Cumbres-Toltec railroad. There is a great coffee shop and some restaurants within walking distance as well as interesting shops to purchase gifts. We will stay again on our next trip to the area.

Very friendly staff. Rustic room with extremely comfortable bed, clean linens and sparkling white fluffy towels. Hot water in shower was quick and abundant. Dinner and dessert excellent and served quickly. The owner is a chef! Met fellow travelers and locals in the cozy dining room and learned about the historic train from a local philanthropist. Great stay. The hotel needs maintenance and renovations but the creature comforts and unique experience were all there. Loved my stay in Chama!

The location is ok -right opposite to Train station. Here are some Pros & cons.

Pros-
1. The front desk people were helpful.
2. The cafe was good

Cons-
1.the rooms were super stuffy feeling- no AC- it was hot through the evening- with mosquitoes.

2. The bathrooms look super dingy- no toothpaste was available on our stay. The doors didnt lock- careful!

3. There was no TV services to our room- something happened to the wire on construction per mgmt.

We wont go back- not worth $100 for a night.

The owners bought this old place a bit back and did a lot of restorations. Things like old fashioned plumbing (that work better than some of the new stuff) Push button light switches and old creaky wood floors make this place VERY charming. They cook a lot of desserts on-site and have a great Sunday Brunch and a really nice diner. It was really busy during the Chama Days Celebration but the service was good, the food was terrific and the other customers were all in good moods. The second floor balcony that over looks the New Mexico to Colorado Steam Train Depot is across the street and the sunrises are amazing!

Read the numerous glowing reviews by CDT hikers and decided to stay here a few nights. What a mistake. The staff were edgy and irritated every time we tried to speak with them. Though we did observe them spending ample time and being mighty friendly to CDT hikers, apparently being regular tourists and train customers was deemed unworthy. The rooms are clean, warm and relatively comfortable, though we found the bed hard on our backs and had trouble with the pillows. Shower was walk in with plentiful hot water. The main appeal was being just across the street from the Cumbres Toltec railroad and walking distance to some shops and restaurants. But with covid, most places were closed or had such limited hours this wasn’t the convenience we’d hoped. There’s a deck that would be nice in summer. Inside there’s a small seating area on the second floor inexplicably littered with a pile of old wood and glass making it a little perilous. Noise was a big problem – you can hear every foot step, conversation and bodily eruption going on in every room. We were repeatedly awoken by people stomping down the hallway at odd hours. The other major downer was their cable was out our entire stay, several days, and also no microwave access and no housekeeping. Other tourists had none of these issues at nearby hotels, so we’ll be staying elsewhere next time. This place is apparently great if you’re a CDT hiker, but if you’re a regular tourist consider going elsewhere.

What a cool quirky spot to stay! There were hikers staying overnight from hiking the continental divide trail. The owner is so sweet and kind and down to earth.
There's a full kitchen (similar to what you have at home ) and laundry is available. The rooms are small and basic. They are being remodeled while sticking with the original 100+ year old building design.
Best described as a boutique hotel in the making. Right now, a very clean and fun hotel with gorgeous scenery
