The restaurant is located in the Taos Plaza area. We took Tripadvisor.com web site recommendations and tried here.
Our entrees were just average. Not bad. But not flavorful. Slow and incompetent service. We wouldn’t come back.

Went for Sunday dinner it had a waiting of 1 hour but we were called before that . Ambience is happening. They have some Mexican and American options of food.
We had fish and chips, fried mushroom and enchiladas .. fried mushroom was super hot and juicy , fish and chips were good just that chips were super thin and enchiladas came with posole which we tried for first time and glad we did . It was awesome.
Overall great dining experience.

Thank goodness daughter did research and found this incredible eatery! First! It's off the beaten path. You walk in and it's SO enchanting! The dark wood, huge central skylight and Mexican motif is astounding! Second! Beware of the pom pom margarita! Daughter ordered one and wow! It's boozy and delicious! I opted for the traditional and it was WAY less intoxicating. She orders the blue corn enchiladas and I have the shredded beef tacos. We also have the guacamole which is chunky and flavorful with cilantro! YUM! The salsa is divine! It's a replica of the salsa I enjoyed at a restaurant I loved called "Cilantro" in homewood, Illinois. Cilantro flavors with a tomato and garlic push and a small bite of jalapeño! YES! Daughters enchiladas make my eyes widen in amazement as they embody the most tasty fillings ever! Seriously! No cheese overflow and no enchilada sauce burying the entire dish. Bean side dish was a mirror of what The Pantry served: whole beans in a mushy sauce that melted in your mouth and wasn't "al dente". My shredded beef tacos were so tender! Literally I cut the beef with my fork. Served on flour tortillas with lettuce, tomatoes and cheese, they were flavorful and beefy. Service was fast and answered all my questions about the food and drink. No room for dessert and as we lumbered toward the exit I still am amazed we didn't curl up on an outside bench and take a nap. Excellent experience! Find this place when you visit! You won't be disappointed-EVER!

Realistically this is a 3.5 star review. We came in for dinner and they had karaoke about to start. Luckily a server told us so we were able to move to a back room so it wasn’t too loud.

We ordered a chile relleno and it was very good just not super hot unfortunately. I ordered the tamales I thought they were good.

The server we had did a great job and although I forgot her name she is the reason I’m giving a 4 star review instead of a 3.

I believe this is one of the oldest buildings in Taos. It is a hole in the wall bar. The food is pretty standard New Mexico bar food.

The history of the building is what brought us here, along with word on the street they had good Margaritas. I definitely recommend!
We got the trio of dips (guac, queso, salsa) and everything was very yummy. Guac needed more lime but no prob - we got some.
Really cool place to stop for some snacks and definitely a Margarita!

Carne adovada, fried mushrooms - both so good. The tortilla that comes w the carne adovada is also so good, nice and a lil flakey.

First time eating at The Alley Cantina. I liked the overall mood and energy this place puts out. The food is actually really decent and is not the same old chain restaurant food from town to town. The waitresses and the host were all super cool, and we will now have a go-to spot whenever we're in Taos.
