I have so many amazing memories from this mall from the '90s and '00s back when it was known as County East Mall. But we drove around the perimeter a couple weeks ago and it was unrecognizable. I know the fitness center is getting used, but everything else looked near death. The mall reeks of desperation and depression. What has happened to this area? It's so sad.

Update: the mall is getting worse. Ray needs to go! I just posted a photo of the bathroom entrance. It has been closed for 16 days now. They are not fixing it. This is Illegal because there is no other public bathroom available here.

This place is terrible, and gets worse every year. There are no food locations anymore. There are 22 stores that are closed. And only 16 store locations including malu fitness who takes up 5 locations themselves. The security sucks. They only have 1 old person working each day. Every store gets robbed on the daily and the management have the nerve to tell stores to hire their own security. Just this week, 4 stores closed, Peruvian street bites, work wear, treasure island, and FRESH AND FITTED! the mall keeps saying they are having new people opening, and they been saying that for years and no one is opening. The only main stores left are jewelry palace, Lotus, and shiek, who have been here for atleast 10 years. Fresh and fitted closing will have a huge impact to the mall. If any of the last 3 even close. Then mall is done for. Unless the management does a better job. This mall will be shut down by the end of the year. I think there is only 1 person in the management. I heard his name is Ray. He is never at the mall. Workers think he just comes to clock in, goes home, and comes back to clock out. Just to get a pay check. They all say, everytime they go to the office. He is never there.
The bathrooms are disgusting. The women's bathroom have no locks on any doors. The mens bathroom only has 1 lock. And you can see through the stalls. This place is unsafe especially for kids. I have seen the cleaners stick the mop in the toilet and use it to clean the floors and the toilets. They are so lazy. And the management will not do anything about it. I am afraid to take my kids here. Just a few weeks ago, 6 to 7 people came into the mall, wearing ski masks, threatened the security gaurd, and when all the stores closed their doors. They started knocking on the doors. They even threatened the employees at Hibbitt that they were going to come back at closing because they closed the gate so they couldn't rob them. They said they would wait in the parking lot for them to come out . I asked a few stores what is the management going to do about this. And they said Ray didn't care. He was mad the cops were called to come to the mall. That it wasn't necessary.
So, long story short. The management doesn't care if the employees get hurt or even killed. They don't care the mall is falling apart. The bathroom is not up to code. And there is no where to eat in this mall. They need new management and fix this mall.

I don’t know what spam bots and idiots are giving this place five stars. A cemetery has more life than this oversized empty parking lot. I have nostalgia for this place stemming from the early to mid 2000s but that was two decades ago and has no bearing on what an atrocity this place has become in recent years. An absolute sad state of affairs. If you must go to a local mall in East Contra Costa County, you’re better off going to Sun Valley Mall in Concord or even Streets of Brentwood, though I’d argue that the latter isn’t really that passable as a shopping mall either.

Sears liquidation is on point. Picked up a handful of gorgeous commercial shelving units for display. Thrilled.

A waste. A ghost town. It'll probably be closed by fall or end of the year in 2024. The Mayor will probably let it get torn down for some apartments I bet. This used to be the place to go for holiday shopping, and a better selection of styles etc. People from other areas would come to this mall to shop.

Then - the rents went up, and stores inside the mall jumped ship. One by one. There wasn't really any type of crime against the stores then either. No mass looting etc.

A wasted space with the potential to create jobs, revitalize the area & a little economic boost ...all gone. Sad.
