Great historical park and museum all about Smokey Bear. A bit off the beaten path, but if you're passing by Capitan, it's worth the time to stop and visit Smokey's hometown and grave site.
It was a rainy day when we visited but there's a nice little garden/park area where Smokey is buried and it has a variety of trees, plants, and cacti that are native to the region.
The museum gives a great walk through the history of Smokey and the folks who made him popular worldwide. Also, an educational section on forestry, forest fires, and such.
Only $2 pp for admission includes a self-guided tour and short film. It would be a great place to take the kids on an educational field trip. See our longer video on this site on our #ytchannel Motley Rue, Where Are You?

We really enjoyed our visit, seeing pictures of the original cub throughout his life. The memorabilia brought me back to when I was a kid. It’s also a nice stroll through the park to see the firefighters memorial and Smokey’s grave. Don’t forget to stop by the gift shop across the street.

This is a must stop if you are in the area. This park tells the story of both Smokey the Bear who was developed with the help of Disney and the real cub who became the living embodiment of Smokey. Growing up in the 80s and 90s, Smokey was everywhere and being able to see this part of his life and experiences, not to mention the science of firefighting was a great thing.
