With the area like Raton, this station is good for passengers. I went here for my vacation this year, 2019. Lovely with the rental car's store very close. The price is not expensive, good price.

While I may have never been to this place, but why be so childish when it comes to being negative. 90% of the routes that Amtrak travels on are owned by freight railroads. And sadly it's the freight companies that tie up the line. The Southwest Chief runs mostly on Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks. From what I heard, that BNSF is a very kind railroad and if they get a message coming into their main dispatch center about a late Amtrak train, they will dispatch all of their freight trains into sidings and let Amtrak go through so that Amtrak can make up for loss time. There are several stations throughout the entire Amtrak stations that are unstaffed. This station like many others along the Southwest Chief route used to be served by the Antiktech, Topeka & Santa Fe.

Though I have yet to take the Amtrak train to or from Raton, it's in the cards that I will. From Flagstaff to Raton in one long day, seeing landscapes that depart from following highways, is bound to be a treat. La Posada in Winslow, one of my favorite hotels in the west, even has its own train stop and the owners of La Posada also own the Castenada Hotel in Las Vegas, NM, right across the street from the train station there. How cool to book a ride and take a night here and there along the way. Who needs a road trip when you've got the train?
