My husband and I went away for a long weekend and stayed at Rancho Manzanno in Chimayo, NM. The grounds were lovely and peaceful, although they casita was kind of cramped . We did find a small table with chairs out on the porch, but when there was rain, you could not utilize them. We would sit inside on the bed. However, you dare not open the windows, because there are no screens and bugs came in so quickly! We had a problem with the sink from the first evening we were there, and when we contacted the host she suggested we plunge it…we ended up having to plunge it daily! There is a lot expected of each and every guest - take out trash daily, shut down heat/ac every time you leave the room, close all the windows, plunge the sink, etc. Very frustrating. Next time we’ll stay a little further away in a hotel that doesn’t expect perfection when their guests leave! Also, you are charged a cleaning fee and a service fee that I have never been charged before!

I was very sad to see the negative review by the hostess, Jody, of Rancho Manzanno. We tried to let Jody know on our first evening there of a problem with her sink, she suggested we plunge it but when we did debris came up. We had to plunge it daily. We are sorry about the food stain on the sheet, it was raining outside and we were unable to eat at the only table provided which was outside on the porch . I tried to make up for it by cleaning her Casita to the absolute best of my ability, but obviously that wasn’t appreciated. Being an Airbnb host means that sometimes your things may get dinged up, etc, it’s part of renting out your space. Little things may happen, and God forbid BIGGER things happen like when guests leave a disgraceful mess, break your things and steal your towels totally disrespecting you. We didn’t do that. I’m sorry to say we won’t return to Jody’s Casita in October during our return visit with our Grandson, because I would be afraid to breathe wrong and have it reviewed on the internet! It simply isn’t worth it…

The Casitas are in quite the bucolic setting. It is quiet. My stay was with a gal pal. However, the room is littered with instructions: You are expected to empty the trash and pay a cleaning fee. You cannot set luggage on the bench. You must turn off the a/c when leaving the room but come back to something stuffy. Do not dare open the windows as a hoard of bugs will descend upon you, then crawl on you all night.

The host, Jody, feels free to snoop through your things when you step out. She advertised two beds but there was only one, so we had to improvise. Upon returning, we saw that she had inspected the sheets, rummaged through the trash can, and my luggage. It is uncomfortable sleeping with someone that is not a relative or romantic partner.

She was condescending to my buddy and unnecessarily admonished her for not being able to find the "big house" when there was no map or directions provided. Even her website is condescending but it was not obvious until after listening to her. ("Do not bring any pets We have plenty. Do not bring your children, etc.")

The shower is claustrophobic. The furniture was pretty but uncomfortable. There is no iron or TV. She updated her site after we left to reveal some of these discrepancies. After we checked out, she also sent an email to my buddy attacking her character and making nasty, inaccurate judgements about her character. This "Jody person" was a very unpleasant host. I will not return. In fact, she put a bad taste on Santa Fe overall.

We stayed just two nights in this amazing B&B as part of a trip for our niece's graduation from UNM. Jody and her dogs welcomed us at the gate and showed us to the East Casita. She asked us when we wanted breakfast--anytime between 8:00 and 10:00! || The small adobe cottage is delightfully appointed with a comfortable bed, loveseat across from the double doors, NM artwork, and big fluffy towels in the bathroom. Beautiful views of the mountains over the field from the deck. Serene pond and a small orchard. The place is quiet and peaceful, and we slept well.|| Jody prepared amazing breakfasts-delicious French toast, scrambled eggs, sausage one morning, and Eggs Benedict the next, served in her spacious kitchen/dining room. Jody is a pleasant host. Very personable, she immediately made us feel relaxed and at ease. She knows and loves Chimayo and gave us great advice on hiking in Bandelier.|| Rancho Manzano is close to Ortega's Weaving Shop and El Sanctuario de Chimayo. If you want a beautiful drive, head north to Cordova and Truchas while you are in the area. Rancho Manzano is, however, the best place to stay.

First impressions ARE lasting and when the wooden gate opened at Rancho Manzana to the greeting of it's lovely|Matriarch and her two happy dogs, I knew we were off to a good start. On the welcome tour of our upstairs apartment ,with each room we walked in I went "Awe" Wide open space with beautiful light, appointed very stylishly and comfortable. I love claw footed tubs and there was a beauty in the bedroom. Jody invited us to a 4th of July cookout that was so much fun and delicious. I was invited to pick cherries which I did. Took them home and canned them as my tasty Chimayo souvenir. A lovely experience in a special place.

I am sitting in my room on one of my last days at Rancho Manzana, staring at the apple orchard and cotton woods along the creek and out to the foothills of the Sangre de Christo Mountains.||||I am a Creative and Brand Consultant who has been lucky to be involved in the building of restaurants, hotels and events around the world. Immediately upon arrival, I could read that this place had an incredible story and an elevated attention to detail. These are things that aren't terribly easy to find while traveling anymore- in a world where automatic mentalities have lost the hospitality vibe of days past.||||What is offered here where I still sit is a quiet space to relax, with all of the connective ability should you work remote as I do. Rancho Manzana offers an elegant space to allow you to truly take in the beauty of this historic area against the natural landscape. ||||The rooms are dressed beautifully, linens are incredible, the main building is a gorgeous expression of historic traditional architecture and is over 300 years old! My flat was populated with a beautifully curated selection of books that gave me the opportunity to fall deeper into the history of where I lay.||||My host was lovely when we interacted. She has had this property for 30 years and understands world class accommodation like few I have met in a quiet countryside. Thank you for a truly wonderful stay Jody and team at Rancho Manzana! I will recommend your space to all of my industry friends looking for an escape with elegance and ease. I am so grateful I found this place, and will return as soon as I am able.|||| ||My very best wishes until then, ||-Lauren De Vine

The breakfasts were delicious and ample servings. We were there for two days, the first morning Jody prepared a pear torte with pears fresh from her tree. The next morning was French toast with sauteed bananas. Both breakfasts included a meat, fruit with yogurt, coffee, and juice. Unfortunately, the air conditioning was broken where we were staying, which wouldn't have been a problem since the nights were cool, but the neighborhood dogs barked the entire night and we had to close our windows. The internet was also down for one day of our visit. In this day and age, that hampers the planning process (spotty phone service) and three of our party needed to check in with work, so that was an inconvenience. We stayed in the apartment which is an enjoyable area with a loft and tasteful decor. For four of us, with an extra charge for breakfasts, it was $190 per day. We used the apt dishes one evening and had to wash the dishes before using them, and the apt could have used another sweep of the floors, but overall it was a good experience.

I stayed here with a friend on our way to an epic NM journey to Chaco Canyon. After driving from Santa Fe through beautiful red mesas, we arrived to the most wonderful home cooked meal in the outdoor kitchen. We basked in the warm late sun while picking cherries and strawberries. After the sun went down I sat by the beautiful outdoor pond and walked out in the field under the stars! The many details and well maintained property show that Rancho Manzana is a labor of love. Our whole NM experience made me and my friend start to considering the idea of moving! Wish we could have stayed longer to explore and enjoy more of the magic that is Chimayo. It is clearly a place where the past and the present are linked and the magic from past generations is very much alive.
