After the original owner sold off to East Penn, it was discovered that the facility was left to fall into disrepair. Most of the items in my family's storage unit succumbed to mold an rodent activity, ruined by the condition of the unit. The person in charge of paying for the unit became incapacitated shortly after discovering her family's belongings ruined, so distraught by finding valuables and possessions, items of sentimental value, etc. completely destroyed by mold and rodent damage. The unit fell behind in rent because of this. After about a month and a half of non-payment, the account was closed and the unit auctioned. To add insult to injury, not only did the company recoup the loss of rent for September up until the unit was auctioned in October, but then sent the account to collections in an attempt to additional monies, including rent and late fees beyond the time in October that the unit was auctioned off. Made no attempt that the family can find to collect any outstanding fees directly, just want a second payday for a unit for which any rent or fees were recouped at auction and rent and fees imposed after the unit was auctioned and possession transferred to the winning bidder.
