This is a cool place off the beaten path. Theres a lake, plenty of camp grounds, a boat launch, visitors center, clean showers/restrooms and a handful of 30 amp/water RV sites. The “hike” to the dinosaur tracks is easy and on relatively level/firm ground. It’s cool to see.

I'm not an avid camper by any means, I grew up visiting the same park for most of my life and was fixed with the way that was, the other few haven't been as in tune with the nature as I'm used to in terms of bath houses and other amenities. However, in comparison I've never visited such a beautiful place before. Between the scenery and the way the star filled night sky seemed so close, you wish you could touch it. I had my son and two dogs and we car camped for a night, we used the enclosed port-a-potties. We walked the trail to see the dinosaur tracks, skipped rocks on the bank, flew a kite in the sunset. We will go back for more and explore the other side of the park, so much to be seen.

Really enjoyed the easy trail to see the tracks. Shade to pause along way and a shelter was nice to cool off and let my dogs have a drink. Amazing, well preserved tracks. Well worth the side trip!

We were lucky enough to get a site with electric. The lake is beautiful. We were just passing through and spent 1 night. There are flushing toilets and 2 showers by the visitor center. They weren't very clean and inviting but it was better than using the pit toilets throughout the campground. All in all it wasn't a bad place to stay for the price. $14 a night plus $4 for online booking. We were grateful to have found it. Don't miss the short hike to see the dinosaur tracks.

Beautiful campgrounds overlooking the lake. Nice spots and the dinosaur tracks are a plus. Bring some cash service isnt the best. Found a spot that was right next to some very cool rock formations.

We absolutely LOVE Clayton Lake SP. We stay here every time we pass through NM. We have been staying here since 2014 and will continue to stay here. The people are always nice, helpful, and always involved. The park is clean and open and has the most perfect views. Bathrooms/showers are clean and stocked, water available, and trash bins all around the park.
Seeing dinosaur tracks and fishing just make the park that much better!!
It does get very windy sometimes, especially if you are in a rooftop tent, but it is definitely worth the stay. We always stay in the tent sites.

We came to see the dinosaur tracks and they did not disappoint! Over 500 tracks from four species are preserved here, with a nice self guided trail and information to read. Great stuff. The lake itself was beautiful and facilities were really clean and well maintained.
