This area of New Mexico has a deep, rich Native American and Spanish history. The Chimayo church is a beautiful spot to begin a trip in to the mountains. When I arrived down near the creek, the singing of the all the birds sounded like a recording, only it wasn't. Even if you aren't religious, there are many reasons to appreciate Chimayo. No trip to central NM would be complete without a visit here.

A wonderful experience for myself and my grandkids. Father blessed these little children and the medals around their necks. We enjoyed the museum and learning of the history of the crucifix and the holy dirt told by the curator. He told us the very story that his grandmother passed on to him as his family has lived in Chimayo for centuries.

Not too far of drive from santa fe. For a holy site it's a bit commercialized....lots of gift shops. The church itself was very awe inspiring, but the surrounding grounds...not so much

What a beautiful church. We happened to be on time for the outdoor service and enjoyed very much. During service you are under the shade of big cottonwoods while hearing the rustling of leaves and gurgling water of the creek. On the way to taos its a great stop to check out, with the added spiritual nourishment.

This was the first time we had been there! Have always heard people who have been there! Really never got from them our experience we felt today! Today was an experience we will never forget! You can surely feel the presence of the lord there! Definitely filled our hearts and restored our faith in you Lord!! We attended mass and father prayed with us after mass and he truly touched our hearts in praying for our daughter whom has seemed to have lost her way for the time being I know our prayers were heard today in the Lord guiding her back to our family and her son!! Thank you Lord for giving us that hope we need in our everyday prayers in this new way of life !

Don't go during Lent/Easter when the roads are JAMMED with walkers making the spiritual trek. The building is historical and old, like so many other churches in rural New Mexico. This one keeps attracting visitors because of the miracle hype. Avoid the tired souvenir/gift shops; instead take away a little peace & quiet and perhaps renewed faith.

Best little oasis in hills. Enjoyed the church. No reception but that's a great little break from technology.
