This is the place to stop before going into the National Park. Don't steal from the National Park, you can buy petrified wood here. They also have dry camping ? in the lot to the side for free. They should consider becoming a Harvest Host. Starting off in the morning from here allows for an all day adventure through the National Park and it ends up by the I-40 so you can travel East or West.

Loved boondocking here. So peaceful and quiet. Surrounded by beautiful pieces of petrified wood! Right outside of the gate of The Petrified Forest National Park. Nice gift shop.

Stayed here through Harvest Host. Great spot to stay overnight. Very interesting museum with large selection of gifts. Right outside of entrance to Petrified Forrest NP.

Sweet little shop, awesome people, free (self contained) camping! Such a blessing.
Quiet, safe, and comfortable. Family and pet friendly.
Great place to connect with other nomads and just a hop - skip - jump away from the beautiful Petrified Forest National Park.

We arrived at the Petrified Forest National Park at 7:15 and were surprised to find the gates didn’t open until 8:00. We normally don’t visit souvenir shops, but with almost an hour to kill we thought “why not?” Well, it ended up being a great decision! From the moment we walked in the door, the lovely lady working the counter showed us such warmth and kindness. We haven’t seen such a friendly personality in a very long time on our 3 month road trip. She wasn’t pushy at all as far as making a purchase. The shop is full of unique, beautiful items and even though I’m not big on purchasing lots of small items on a trip, there were a few things I just knew I “needed” to remember this lovely area of Arizona. Thank you to Crystal Forest Museum for being a great start to our Petrified Forest experience!

What an awesome place to stay and for free!!!! Right outside the National Park, level and lit. Four other rigs stayed the night along with us. Go in and shop at the gift shop which opens at 6am!. :>)

What a wonderful place to stay for a few days and close to the Petrified Forest! Plus it is FREE!
It's not much but if you are Boondocking for a few days or just wanna stay overnight, this is a great place to stay! I'd say get there before 5pm-ish as it starts to fill up due to people leaving the park. There a few spots that have covered picnic tables and the rest are out in the open. It's a gravel/dirt base for the most part and leveling is pretty easy!
FYI, there are NO hookups of any kind here. So be prepared ahead of time. The associated campground/store across the street has "electric only" for $15, if you need it.
