I'd avoid this place if at all possible! The staff were very rude and not helpful at all for my handicap Father who is in a wheelchair! It was not very clear where the restrooms are located but outside. Then no handicap ramp at all! There was a couple of steps that were taped off to get to the restrooms for no apparent reason except to make it harder to access. Some worker guy that was only working on a phone call yelled at us for breaking the tape and proceeded to have us arrested for yelling back! We want be back to this poor area again

This review is in reference to the outfitter rental only. They are an ok last minute option, however you a likely better off renting gear online or outside of Phoenix.

The tent was nice but the fly needed to be steaked into the ground. The canyons ground is far to hard for this, during my one night in the canyon it rained and the tent took on water(no tarp foot print provided). There was also still dirt and debris on the inside. The sleeping pad had better days and was secured with a single small stretched to the max rubber band, good thing I had cordage since it broke. The pack was good but was still covered in the last users dirt, and I'm assuming sweat. The only things I had no issues with was the sleeping bag (trusting it was washed not like the pack) and the trekking poles.

Lastly one person in my party who had also rented gear has his at the general store outfitter had his hip belt buckle snap half way through a rim to river hike. As this is a pivotal part of a pack to distribute the load we had to use the cordage (again) and a carabiner to rig the hip buckle into a barely acceptable hip belt. Upon returning the pack and asking for a refund or store credit the manager said he could only waive the damage fee. Yup that's right their product failed to hold up to the stress of a hike and he was told he damaged the product.

We always stop-by and browse when we visit the Grand Canyon. On this trip, my wife picked-up a new stocking-cap.

They have a range of general hiking and outdoors-type clothing and accessories. Although, if you're planning a serious hike into the canyon, you should already have your gear before you get there.

It was snowing and I needed some waterproof gloves for the trek to the river. Found an excellent pair, a little expensive but it's ok considering how remote GC is!!
