I usually go into Karl the Store after getting coffee at Equator. I really like the curation of items from art to candles to clothing. It’s all pretty high quality items and the prices reflect that but it’s also a small business and I understand the time that goes into finding, buying and holding all these things.

I wanted to share a particularly nice experience I had at the store. I had my eye on a bomber jacket that was just expensive enough that after visiting twice I was hesitant to pull the trigger. I googled the item and found that it had recently gone on sale online for nearly 50% off what it was in the store. Like I said above, I want to support local businesses but the difference in price would have been hundreds of dollars. I mentioned this at the store with the nice gentleman who is always there and just asked for a small discount to try and bridge the gap between the two different prices. What he did next really impressed me: he insisted on giving me the same price as what the jacket was on sale for at the manufacturer website. Even after I mentioned that wasn’t necessary and that somewhere in the middle would be fine, he insisted that they would honor the sale price. Wow, as a customer that makes me want to go back and shop there more. I love my jacket and we’ll definitely be back in the future. I wanted to share so others would appreciate that while the shop might have high end things that can be expensive, they’re also extremely hospitable and kind. Definitely a place to stop by the next time you’re in the area.

I’m not exaggerating when I say this is my favorite shop in the bay area. The inventory is perfectly curated, and I’ve left with a bag full of art, jewelry and fragrances both times I’ve gone.
The owner has a personal connection and story for every single item, which makes shopping here and bringing these items home feel very special.
The pictured artist is Andrea Coish - check her out! (I bought both of these paintings so don’t expect to find these particular ones in the store, but there are many more where they came from)

Dennis is an awesome member of the community and the stuff in his shop is thoughtfully curated from all over the world. Great guy, great store. His wife also makes some of the best pies i’ve ever had!

We stumbled upon this store while exploring town - it has a great curated selection of clothes and home-goods. You know it's a good spot when they carry Sydney Hale candles and daily home-made pies!

I started coming to Karl during the pandemic when I began pedaling across the GG Bridge from SF. I KEPT coming back over the years because it is a highly curated space with all the things I didn’t know I wanted/needed in my life, and Dennis is a treasure. I can spend all kinds of time looking at new and unique items collected from travel and lived experience. Bonus: Dennis’ wife Kate makes the best damned pies I’ve ever tasted. Karl is worth the trip alone, but the fact that it shares space with a stunning Equator Coffee outpost speaks directly to my soul. Karl is a must visit spot. Don't miss it.

This is a very special place not to be missed on your next trip to Sausalito. Dennis, the owner is a gem with excellent, eclectic taste and is a wealth of information on the artisans he buys from. Going into his store is a special treat and one should not pass it by. Its right next to a the best Equator coffee shop in Marin, full kitchen and much much more than coffee and pastries. Enjoy a family brunch then wonder in and meet Dennis, oh, and his wife makes homemade chicken pot pies as well as blueberry, peach and other seasonal pies that make for wonderful dinners or hosting gifts.
