Decent campground near Whitney Portal. Very basic and a bit tight for RV’s but the location gave a nice distant view of Mt. Whitney. Getting there was a little challenging since a portion of the Whitney Portal Road was closed. Part of the detour was a narrow windy road through the Alabama Hills that had little visibility in some spots. Drive carefully through that area.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The campground is clean and well kept. There are lots of activities on the weekends. It is a great place to stay. We stayed due to my work. It was perfect place to stay.

Pretty nice normal campsite. Very nice views at night and temperatures felt great during the summer. Unfortunately the restroom facilities were not well kept, with many cobwebs inside, no ventilation, and what looked like non-consistent cleaning. I understand that the campsite had been closed for many months and had only recently been open. Newcomers beware of the red ants that are in plethora around these campsites!

Sites were in disarray. Some tables were good concrete others were thin, bowed wood that was splintering in the sun. Asphalt is disintegrating, result of seasonal floods. The host was extremely friendly and went out of his way to be helpful. Bathrooms were clean.

This place was awesome. Stayed here when we cut a trip short due to mosquitoes. Since this is in the desert, there were no bugs.

Lone Pine Creek flows on either side of the campground and offered a really nice place to hang out. Almost every site to the west has a nice tree to block out some of the sun.

The bathrooms...the pit toilets were amazingly clean. in fact, when I walked in the first time, I was astounded how nice they smelled. The camp host really went out of his way to keep them clean. I could have been in there all day.

Oh, head up to Whitney Portal and grab breakfast. Amazing pancakes.

And lastly, the view. You get a great view of Mt. Whitney. Totally sweet place to chill. I hear many peak baggers stay here prior to their ascent up the mountain.

Awesome little campground at the bottom of Mt. Whitney and the top of Alabama Hills. Nice camping spaces, clean vault toilets, beautiful stream and views. Host was friendly and helpful. It was windy where we were camping before in Alabama hills, but this campground had enough hills blocking it to keep the wind down!

We camped here in our class B van for a couple nights at the end of April since we had heard it was open even though the website stated it was not. We took a chance and found a couple of site open. Most all the campground is on a hill so finding a fairly level site was difficult. The best part about this campground is the view of Mount Whitney above and the ability to hike the nearby trail leading up to the Whitney Portal. Lone Pine creek runs along the side of the campground and can be a good place to fish if you find a nice pool and if recently planted. While I saw a few small trout in the creek they were elusive. The pit toilets were relatively clean and there we some freshwater spigots throughout the campground. The sites were rather tight and adjacent neighbors very close by. There was a camp host on site and firewood available for sale. Cell/data coverage was pretty limited and could tell when others were using bandwidth.
