Aug 2020: We hired Tom Curtis and The Rock Market to do some repairs to our pool. During the time these repairs were being done I had just had a procedure on my back due to some severe back pain that recently landed me in the ER. I was still recovering when he said the work was done. I explained I could not inspect the work for a couple more days as I was still recovering. He assured me the work was done and also gave me his word that after I was able to inspect the work, if I found anything at all, he would come right back out and make it right.

Once I was able to inspect the work (within two days of him “finishing”) I found some work he was supposed to do and that I paid him for that was not even touched. I texted him to let him know right away, two days later I called, the next day my wife called and one week after that I emailed him. He has completely ghosted us. This was one month ago now. I’m writing this review because we’ve given Tom numerous opportunities to rectify the situation and he has done nothing.

My problem is I trust people and when they give me their word, I believe them. DO NOT TRUST TOM CURTIS AT THE ROCK MARKET. Given the opportunity, he will rip you off.

He also indicated he was a licensed contractor, again, I believed him. Since this happened I’ve checked with the CSLB and he has no license and so very likely, no workers compensation insurance. His employees, Sera and Nico, are nice enough guys, but if they would have gotten injured, I’d be responsible. I’d recommend you never hire this guy.

Sera and Nico do pretty good work and their attention to detail is good when Tom is not around. When he shows up, he’s in their face for not working faster, which causes the quality of the work to deteriorate. Tom will tell you they’re going to do something but doesn’t communicate that to them so there is that disconnect.

Lastly, they destroyed a robellini palm tree I had near my pool and it’s a $250 cost to replace it. It appears they tied themselves off using the tree and broke off two of the three branches.

I am filing complaints with the proper authorities but wanted to get this out there to warn anyone else considering hiring him. Don’t trust Tom Curtis at The Rock Market as far as you can throw him.

Aug 2021 - UPDATE ONE YEAR AFTER THE WORK ON THE SLIDE WAS DONE:
Attached are pictures of the peeling sealant on the slide. It started small and now as peeled dramatically. One image is of the sealant coming off, my wife referred to it as a bad finger nail polish job.

The other picture is what has come through my filter once it washes down the slide.

These guys are inept, disgusting and crooks. Having to have the slide re-done... another expense.

This is only ONE YEAR later folks!
